COVID-19: President M7 Hails MP Kyagulanyi’s People Power For Donating Relief Item

The President of Uganda Yoweri Museveni has for the first time recognized the opposition pressure group People Power movement and its leader Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine for the contribution to the well-being of Ugandans.

During his 9th National Address about Coronavirus on Wednesday, April 8, 20202, president Museveni told the public that the COVID-19 National Taskforce had received a consignment of food and other relief items from the People Power movement.

President Museveni said that; “Thank you very much People Power. Now you see you are joining the people.”

Meanwhile, Bobi Wine, during the flagging off event unveiled People Power deputy president, Ms Lina Zedriga Waru, who is currently a director and lecturer for women, peace and security at the Regional Associates for community Initiatives.

“I am delighted that I have been entrusted with this position and I am ready to pay the price for it. I know what joining People Power means and the struggles one has to go through but I am ready for all that,” Ms Zadriga said.

People Power movement headed by the Bobi Wine on Wednesday delivered relief items to the national COVID-19 Taskforce to help in the fight against the Coronavirus pandemic.

Flagging off donations items including soap, posho and salt at their head office in Kamwokya, Bobi Wine said he was playing part in filling the gap of the enormous need that has been created by the pandemic.

“As People Power, we have been receiving numerous calls from across the country on how we can give help because the lockdown has affected many people. We could not give immediate help to these people given our little resources, but we have decided to take advantage of the national taskforce,” he said.

The items were delivered to the Ministry of Health by People Power leader of women’s league Ms Flavia Kalule.

Health Minister Dr Ruth Aceng received the items and asked them to encourage their supporters to maintain social distance as one of the guidelines issued by the government to fight Covid-19.

“I want to appreciate the People Power movement for this donation. Every contribution matters from wherever it is coming from. I want to pledge that this donation that you have made today, will be distributed to women in the rural areas as you have requested,” she said.
