FDC’s Amuriat Suspends Campaign After Supporters Perish In Nasty Accident

Two people are said to be dead as Forum for Democratic Change presidential candidate, Patrick Oboi Amuriat’s convoy is involved in an accident in Nebbi.

The accident occurred at Kimor village, Panyamur Town Council in Pakwach district after a truck registration number UBB 856W that was carrying supporters as well as a public address system overturned at a notorious accident blackspot.

The deceased have been identified as Zulaika Yasin, 25, a resident of Nebbi Municipality, and Hellen Picho, a Nebbi Municipality councilor

Amuriat has been campaigning in West Nile region for the last two days. We’ve learnt that 15 more people who were in the convoy have been rushed to the neighbour health facilities. FDC sources say their candidate has meanwhile suspended campaigns.

Several other people who were injured in the accident were taken to Panyamur Health Centre as well as Angal Hospital which is located in Nebbi.

The victims who are currently undergoing treatment include are Gloria Afoyorwoth, 25, Alfred Mugisa, Emmanuel Ocayo, Grace Cwinyai, Walter Odongo, Mildred Awachango, Scovia AwekoThimitho, Walter Agononga, Zion Bwothio, Abdul Abudungara, Trinity Muswa, Festo Odongo and Gloria Afoyorwoth.

Amuriat visited the scene empathised with the victims of the accident and said he will only resume his campaign when the casualties get well.”It is something that has hit us quite hard. For that matter, we have taken the decision to suspend this campaign,” Amuriat said.

Amuria was expected to conclude his West Nile tour in Pakwach on Tuesday afternoon before heading to Bunyoro region on Wednesday.
