Government Releases ‘Final’ Detailed Program For Museveni Inauguration

President Elect Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni will on May, 12 be inaugurated for a sixth term after being declared winner of the January 14 polls.

According to the program released by the Ministry for Presidency, the Wednesday function will begin as early as 8 am and end at 2:30 pm.

“The swearing-in procedure will see the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission invited by the director of ceremonies proceed to the swearing-in podium and then invite the president-elect to proceed to the swearing-in podium where he will be presented to the nation,” the program reads in part.

“The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission will then invite His Lordship the Chief Justice to proceed to the swearing-in Podium to administer the Oath of Allegiance and the Oath of President to the president-elect. His Lordship the Chief Justice, the Head of Public Service and Secretary to Cabinet, and the Chief Registrar will proceed to the swearing-in podium and the Chief Registrar will present the Bible and Oath of Allegiance to the president.”

According to the program after taking and signing the oath of allegiance and the oath of the president, the president-elect will receive instruments of power of the Republic of Uganda including the Constitution, the national flag, the presidential standard flag, the national anthem, the National Court of Arms and the public seal from the Chief Justice.

The Chief of Defence Forces will then hand over the instruments of national defence to the president-elect and later, the head of Public Service and Secretary to Cabinet will receive one by one, the instruments of power from the president for custody.

“H.E the president will then take the presidential salute while the parade adopts the Alfa formation, concurrent with the rising of the flag and a 21 gun salute. The president will then inspect the guard of honour.”

The program indicates that later, religious leaders will then pray for the president’s new term of office and the nation before the parade that will comprise of the UPDF, Police and Uganda Prisons Services marches in slow and quick time.

The president will later introduce the visiting heads of state and later address the nation for the first time as president.

Cultural entertainment will then follow and anthems close off the function before the president sees off his guests.

  • The Chief Registrar presents, one by one, the Instruments of Power of the Republic of Uganda to the Chief Justice;
