Jakana Nadduli’s death: What we know so far as mixed reactions arise

Mr. Sulaiman Jakana Nadduli, the son of former minister and veteran minister Hajji Abdul Naduuli has died just a month after being released from jail.

Jakana’s mysterious death as confirmed by his brother Mr Ali Nadduli who told this reporter that the former Nakaseke central MP contestant breathed his last at around 3:00 am from Orient Medical Centre in Wobulenzi Town where he had been rushed shortly after his health deteriorated on Sunday.

“Jakana is dead. He died shortly after we rushed him to Orient Medical Centre in Wobulenzi Town. His health has not been good from the time he was involved in a road accident,” he said briefly.

Mr. Ali Nadduli added that Jakana will be buried on (Monday) at Kadunda Village in Kapeeka Sub County, Nakaseke District.

Early this year in March, the controversial political commentator was involved in a road crash that nearly ended his life and had been moving with the support of crutches.

Family sources also revealed that while he could talk and walk supported by crutches, his health was not good. He had been staying at his father’s home located at Lusenke Village in Wobulenzi Town Council, Luweero District since his release from prison.

Jakana Nadduli was a vocal political activist and blogger who recently arrested and detained for recording and uploading a video on YouTube promoting sectarianism against Banyankole and Banyarwanda contrary to section 41(1) of the penal code act.

He was however last month on September 21, 2022, granted a Sh5m cash bail although he pleaded not guilty to the charges slapped against him.

Jakana’s connection with Bobi Wine’s NUP

Previously an NRM cadre, Jakana later became a prominent figure of the opposition political party, National Unity Platform (NUP) and has for long been a close accomplice of the NUP party leader Robert Kagulanyi, alias Bobi Wine.

“I have just learnt of the sudden, untimely death of our brother Jakana Sulayiman Nadduli, the son of Haj Nadduli,” said Bobi Wine on his socials, adding that; “He told us that he was severely tortured in detention. Later he was produced before a court in Luwero and remanded to Butuntumula prison where he spent several weeks.”

The NUP secretary General Mr Lewis Rubongoya further added to the voice of his Principal (Bobi Wine) in mourning the demise of Mr Jakana, who contrary to the family statement said he was found dead at his home.

“We’ve woken up to the terrible news of the untimely passing of our brother Jakana Nadduli,” Rubongoya said in a Tweet on Monday morning. “The family says he was found dead at his home, a few days after he was released from prison,”  he added.

Rubongoya said he spoke to Jakana “on Saturday and he sounded fine. Terrible news. Inna lillahi wa inallah-e-raji’oon.”

The cause of death of the 37-year-old political activist, who was a resident of Nakasero zone in Wobulenzi town, is yet to be established.
