Monster Housemaid Sentenced To 40 Years For Brutal Assault On Four Year Child

A 37-year-old housemaid, Precious Tumuhirwe, has been sentenced to 40 years in prison after pleading guilty to charges of aggravated torture of a four-year-old child under her care. The sentencing was delivered by Kira Chief Magistrate Shallon Niwaha during court proceedings on January 3, 2025.

The assault, which occurred on December 26, 2024, in Kikoko Zone, Kira Municipality, Wakiso District, shocked the local community after CCTV footage revealed the disturbing details. The footage showed Tumuhirwe violently handling the child, stretching her limbs, and causing severe injuries as the young girl cried in pain.

Prosecutors revealed that the incident was triggered when the child soiled her clothes. Tumuhirwe, instead of assisting the child, reacted with aggression, leading to visible injuries and significant trauma. The girl, who is currently receiving medical care at Nsambya Hospital, has been left deeply scarred, both physically and psychologically.

State attorney Kate Basuta emphasized the gravity of the crime, noting the child’s age and vulnerability. She argued that Tumuhirwe’s lack of remorse and her attempt to flee the scene instead of seeking help for the victim warranted a harsh penalty.

“This case highlights the need to protect vulnerable children from abuse and hold perpetrators accountable for their actions,” Basuta stated during the trial.

Tumuhirwe had been employed by Michael Mwesigwa, a single father who had been raising his children alone for the past two years following a separation. She had worked in his household for four years prior to the incident.

Kampala Metropolitan deputy police spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire condemned the attack, urging the public to remain vigilant against child abuse. “We strongly condemn all forms of violence, especially against children. We call on communities to report any suspected abuse to the authorities immediately,” he said.

Child rights advocates have welcomed the court’s decision, viewing it as a step toward justice. They have also called for increased efforts to prevent child abuse, including enhanced awareness campaigns and stricter oversight of domestic workers.

As the community processes the aftermath of the incident, many hope the ruling will serve as a deterrent against future acts of violence against children.
