ULS Deploys Three Delegations To Investigate Lawyer Eron Kiiza’s Imprisonment

The Uganda Law Society (ULS), led by President Isaac Ssemakadde, has issued a strong statement addressing the ongoing controversy surrounding the incarceration of Advocate Eron Kiiza. The organization has firmly denounced the wave of false allegations and misinformation circulating about the situation.

In response to the outcry, the ULS has taken decisive action, deploying three fact-finding delegations tasked with investigating the circumstances of Kiiza’s imprisonment. These delegations aim to gather accurate information, explore legal remedies, and ensure that Kiiza’s rights and those of other advocates appearing before military courts are fully protected.

Ssemakadde emphasized the importance of relying on credible sources and discouraged speculation and rumors that only serve to exacerbate the issue. “We condemn the self-seekers and provocateurs who are exploiting this situation for their own gain,” he stated. “Their reckless actions are causing undue harm not only to Eron Kiiza and his family but also to the Uganda Prisons Service, the ULS, and our broader community.”

In a show of solidarity and professionalism, the ULS has called for calm and patience from all stakeholders, urging them to await a comprehensive statement from the organization. The society remains committed to supporting Kiiza and his family while prioritizing justice, accountability, and respect for the rule of law.

Ssemakadde also made it clear that the ULS will not be distracted by individuals attempting to politicize or sensationalize the matter. Instead, their focus remains steadfast on providing meaningful support to Kiiza and addressing the broader human rights concerns surrounding his case.

The ULS extended its gratitude to Honorable Martha Karua, Senior Counsel, for engaging with them on the matter and understanding the rationale behind their process. Her input and solidarity have been a source of encouragement in navigating this complex and sensitive issue.

As the ULS continues to advocate for justice, the organization has reaffirmed its dedication to upholding the rights of legal practitioners, ensuring accountability, and fostering a legal system built on integrity and respect for human rights.
