Socialite Don Nasser Secures Bail In Aggravated Child Trafficking Case

Kampala socialite Nasser Nduhukire, popularly known as Don Nasser, has been granted a UGX 3 million cash bail by the High Court. The bail comes weeks after he was committed to stand trial over allegations of aggravated child trafficking and defilement, serious charges that have drawn widespread public attention.

According to prosecution records, the charges stem from an incident that allegedly occurred in May 2024. It is claimed that Nduhukire, along with a co-accused, 19-year-old Promise Ateete, lured a 16-year-old girl through social media and transported her to Nduhukire’s residence in Kito Zone, Kira Division. Prosecutors allege that Nduhukire engaged in unlawful sexual activity with the minor during this time.

Nduhukire’s legal troubles escalated in September 2024 when he was arrested in Kenya after reportedly fleeing Uganda to avoid capture. Following his extradition to Kampala, he was remanded to Luzira Prison, where he has been held until his recent release on bail.

The decision to grant bail has sparked debate, with some questioning its appropriateness given the gravity of the accusations. The offense of aggravated child trafficking is punishable by death, while defilement carries a maximum penalty of life imprisonment. Despite this, the court acknowledged his constitutional right to bail and set conditions, including strict reporting to the authorities.

The trial, yet to be scheduled, is expected to attract significant attention as both the prosecution and defense prepare their cases. Nduhukire has denied the allegations, maintaining his innocence. Meanwhile, child rights advocates have emphasized the need for swift and fair justice, underscoring the severity of crimes involving minors.

The case has reignited conversations about the exploitation of children in Uganda, with many urging for stricter enforcement of laws to protect vulnerable individuals. As the legal process unfolds, all eyes will be on the High Court to deliver a fair outcome.
