6 Arrested For Planting Marijuana In Queen Elizabeth National Park

Atleast Six people have been arrested for planting cannabis in Queen Elizabeth national park in Kasese District.

The six were arrested in a joint operation carried out by police, UPDF and UWA officers on Saturday.

The suspects; Friday Wilson (52 years old), Nason Thembo (23 years), Zalimoni Masereka (38 years), Kyomuhendo Mugasa (29 years), Happy Moses (30 years) and Edison Twesigwe (35 years), all residents of Nyakasanga in Kasese municipality.

According to ASP Vincent Mwesige, the Kasese Police Public Relations officer, suspects had planted over one hectare of cannabis in the park.

Mwesige added that the cannabis was planted 15 Kms deep into the national park and he appealed to public to desist from growing cannabis without licenseHappy Moses one, of the suspects confirmed that they have illegally been growing of marijuana.

The suspects are still kept at the Kasese central police section awaiting court.
