Old Mutual Investment Group has reported strong growth in its unit trust portfolio, with total assets rising to Shs3.36 trillion for the year ending December 2025.

The figures were revealed during the company’s 9th Annual General Meeting held in Kampala, where Chief Financial Officer John Golooba said the performance represents a 36 percent increase from Shs2.46 trillion recorded in 2024.

According to Golooba, the growth was largely driven by increased investor participation, strong net inflows, and the compounding returns generated across the various investment portfolios.

The Umbrella Trust Fund remained the key driver of this expansion, accounting for the bulk of contributions. Its value grew by 34.4 percent to Shs3.31 trillion, generating approximately Shs255 billion in investment income. Profitability from the fund rose to Shs173 billion, reflecting a 28.4 percent increase.

The Dollar Fund also posted impressive gains, expanding to $63 million after registering a 61.2 percent growth. It generated income of $3.22 million, more than doubling its previous performance, and delivered profits amounting to $2.34 million.

In terms of asset allocation, the majority of the funds—about Shs2.61 trillion, representing 78.8 percent—were invested in government securities, while Shs675 billion was held in bank deposits.

Managing Director Zac Kisesi attributed the positive performance to growing financial awareness among Ugandans and increasing trust in regulated investment vehicles. He noted that the rise of savings groups, investment clubs, and corporate treasury management practices has significantly boosted participation in unit trusts.

Kisesi also highlighted the role of regulatory efforts in strengthening confidence within the sector, particularly through ongoing investor education initiatives.

He added that consistent returns, improved transparency, and digital innovation have enhanced customer experience, allowing investors to easily monitor their portfolios, make transactions, and access their funds more efficiently.

These factors, he said, have collectively positioned unit trusts as an increasingly attractive investment option for both individuals and institutions.
