One person has been shot dead in an illegal eviction at Kyampa Zone, Makindye, Kampala.

This comes, after the police responded and stopped an illegal eviction that was conducted at around 9pm.

Earlier, an eyewitness said a group of people armed with clubs, hammers and machetes raided a residence in the same area and started demolishing houses that was occupied by nine residents.

This, contrary to standard procedures of carrying out evictions.

Evictions are supposed to be carried out during day and the victims must be served with court documents by a court bailiff.

It is then that the alarmed residents informed the police, which officer responded quickly.

“Our officers found the suspects in action demolishing the houses.
Efforts by our officers to order them to stop the activities were rejected by the group. Police were forced to fire bullets to disperse the group,” Deputy Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesman, Luke Owoyesigyire said.
One person died in the process while others took off.

“One person, yet to be identified, has been put out of action. The rest of the group members took off,” Owoyesigyire said adding, “Investigations into the matter and the hunt for the group members on run are ongoing.”

Body of the deceased person has been conveyed to City Mortuary Mulago for a postmortem.S.O
