The Uganda Defense Forces (UPDF) with other security agencies have resolved to redeploy the Local Defense Unit following an increase in night crime around the country especially in the urban centers.

Brig.Flavia Bwekwaso , UPDF Spokesperson has released a statement revealing that due to public demand, UPDF has to redeploy LDU officers to combat the urban crime

“The LDUs will resume operations only at night and shall also participate in intelligence led operations.

The unit was withdrawn to undergo refresher training which has been ongoing for a month or so.

The LDU shall not participate in day time enforcement of Ministry of Health Covid-19 prevention guidelines.

The public has been called upon to cooperate with the LDU officers.” She said.

Recently, UPDF took LDUs for refresher training at Kakira military training grounds to learn on how handle civilians due to public outcry after endless cases of human rights violations while enforcing covid-19 night guidelines.
