MP Ssegirinya Appears In Court With ‘Rotting’ Foot, Slapped With Fresh Charges

Kawempe North Member of Parliament, Hon Muhammed Ssegirinya has today been produced in Buganda Road Court via video conferencing.

Ssegirinya looked to be in pain as he displayed his ‘rotting’ foot as he claimed that he sustained the injuries due to torture he received while in custody.

Grade One Magistrate at Buganda Road Court, Doreen Karungi Olga has slapped the legislator with new charges of inciting violence.

Ssegirinyana denied the charges of inciting violence and was further remanded to Kigo prison until October 29 for mention and bail hearing. He is represented by Lawyer Shamim Malende.

Prosecution alleges that between August and September 2020 in Kampala, Ssegirinya through his known FaceBook page ‘Ssegirinya Muhammad FANS PAGE’ vowed to stage a resistance that is worse than the 1994 Rwanda genocide.

MPs Ssegirinya and Allan Ssewanyana were arrested on September 7th 2021, charged in court and remanded to Kigo prisons. Despite being granted bail by Masaka High Court Justice Victoria Nakintu Katamba on September 20th 2021, they were re-arrested in separate incidents from the precincts of Kigo prisons.

Early this week, the two legislators through their lawyers filed fresh bail applications. However, Justices Nakintu Katamba and Lawrence Tweyanze abstained from hearing their bail applications citing the complexity of their case files.

Mr Ssegirinya has other unresolved charges of inciting violence pending before Buganda Road Magistrate’s Court in connection to his demonstration near Mini Price in March 2021 demanding the release of all political prisoners arrested in connection to the general elections.
