The Police have apologised over an incident where officers lobbed teargas at a group of members of the Mbogo clan attending thanksgiving MassĀ for their clan head, Gajuule Kayiira Kasibante.

Earlier today, a police delegation visited the head of Mbogo clan to deliver apologizes to his family and the wider Mbogo Clan fraternity, at the clan headquarters in Mugulu village, Zigotti town council in Singo.

The team which was led by AIGP Asan Kasingye on behalf of Martin Okoth Ochola said the IGP carried out a thorough review and evaluation of the incident, and acknowledges the operational lapse which led to the use of teargas that spread and impacted on the congregation and the public.

Ochola extended further apologies in addition to the earlier ones made, regarding this regrettable incident.

ā€œHe wishes to applaud the head of the Mbogo Clan for his resilient and steadfast leadership during this disruptive incident by the territorial Policeā€.

ā€œHe further requests that all leaders (including cultural leaders) should always involve the Police in programs such as these for better coordination during this Covid19 pandemic in order to mitigate the risks of Covid-19 transmission among the entire public.

Speaking to journalists on Monday, Enanga said the act was regrettable.

“It was not our intention and we apologise to all those who were affected by our actions, including Bishop Emeritus Kaggwa, the Catholic Church and members of Mbogo clan,” Enanga said.

The main celebrant was retired Masaka Diocese Bishop, John Baptist Kaggwa.
