One Dead, Scores Injured As Police Shoot At Kyagulanyi’s Crowded Supporters

At least one person died and several others sustained injuries after Uganda police opened  fire at National Unity Platform (NUP) presidential contender Robert Kyagulanyi’s supporters in Mbale City, on Sunday.

Eye witnesses have identified the deceased as Kharisma Mateeka, who was a songwriter and one of the staunch Bobi Wine supporters and a NUP coordinator in Bugisu region.

Announcing his death, Bobi Wine’s supporters wrote thus on Facebook; “UGANDA POLICE KILLED PEOPLE POWER SUPPORTER IN MBALE,MANY INJURED

Sad news is that a Song writer identified Kharisma Mateeka has been shot dead today in Mbale by Uganda police in what seemed to be an assassination plot to kill Bobi Wine.

As police commanded by a one ASP Assimwe fired teargas, live bullets from Sironko toMbale many Ugandans were injured and now one is reported to have died due to bullets wounds. Mateeka has left behind his young family #RIP”

However, by press time the police had not yet issued a statement about Mateeka’s death to explain whether he had really died as a result of gunshot wounds or it was just an accident.
