The embattled Chairperson of the Equal Opportunities Commission (EOC), Sylvia Nabatanzi Muwebwa was spotted at Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadaga’s office in what some said was a last minute attempt to persuade her sweet-talk President Yoweri Museveni to renew her expired contract at the commission, as corruption charges bite.

According to reliable sources at the Speaker’s office, Ntambi went at Parliament on Friday around 5:00P.M and begged Kadaga to further ‘sweet’ talk the DPP to withdraw all the corruption allegations against her and also request the President to renew her contract however, Kadaga refused to help her, insisting that she is supposed to be suspended and face court trials.

“I can not indulge my self in defending individuals who are causing financial loss to the government, if it’s corruption, no discussion,”Sources verbatively quoted Speaker Rebecca Kadaga.

Ntambi who has not yet handed over her official government vehicle to the commission and nine other employees of EOC were charged with embezzlement, causing financial loss, conspiracy to defraud and corruption.

According to Prosecution, between July 2018 and April 2019 at EOC offices in Kampala, Ms Ntambi neglected her duty of directing the affairs and administration of EOC thereby leading to gross mismanagement of the commission’s funds.

The nine suspects are Ntambi’s former senior personal secretary, Agnes Enid Kamahoro, Mujuni Mpitsi (secretary) Moses Mugabe (senior monitoring and evaluation officer), Harriet Byangire (senior accountant), Ronnie Kwesiga (acting accounts assistant), Evans Jjemba (principal compliance officer), Manasseh Kwihangana (senior compliance officer), Sarah Nassanga (office attendant) and Sunday Nicholas Olwor.

It is alleged that between November 2018 and April 2019 at EOC offices in Kampala District, Mugabe, Mujuni, Jjemba and Ms Ntambi conspired to defraud government of Shs35m and more than Shs9.4m between January and April 2019.

Prosecution further states that between November 2018 and April 2019, Mugabe stole Shs29m and Shs14.5m which belonged to EOC.

Change of Name

According to deed poll, EOC boss renounced and abandoned the use of the name Sylvia Ntambi as it appears on her national identification card and in the lieu assumed the name Sylvia Nabatanzi Muwebwa. Previously EOC boss was using Sylvia Muwebwa Ntambi but now she has dropped Ntambi and replace it with Nabatanzi hence adoption of Sylvia Nabantazi Muwebwa

“In the pursuance of my side change of name as fore said, I shall hereby declare that I shall of all time thereafter in all records, deeds, and instruments in writing and in all actions, proceedings and transactions, and upon all actions whatsoever go by, use and sign the said name in lieu of the name Ntambi Sylvia renounced as fore mentioned,” reads in part of the deed poll.

“I therefore request and authorise all persons at all times thereafter to designate and by my assumed name Nabatanzi Sylvia Muwebwa,” she said.
