First son and Commander of the Special Forces Command, Lt. Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba has received his COVID-19 jab.
Gen Muhoozi was injected by UPDF director of Medical Services Brig Stephen Kusasira at SFC head quarters in Entebbe on Tuesday morning.

“Today, it was my pleasure to open the covid-19 vaccination campaign within SFC by taking my first shot of the AstraZeneca vaccine. I thank H.E.Kaguta Museveni, the Ministry of Health, and our development partners for the quick acquisition and rollout of this vaccine,” he tweeted.

Gen.Muhoozi encouraged all security men to receive covid-19 vaccinations because they are safe and energizes body to fight the deadly disease.

Muhoozi becomes the first senior UPDF officer to be vaccinated with AstraZeneca vaccine that has so far been suspended by a couple of countries globally due to its alleged “deadly” effects.

While addressing Ugandans over the weekend, President Museveni said he has not yet been vaccinated against COVID-19 because he is “careful” and is still weighing which jab to take. Meanwhile, Museveni’s statements left many doubting about the safety of the vaccine something that is seemingly cleared by Muhoozi’s action.

“The reason I have not been vaccinated is first of all I am quite careful,” Museveni said, adding the vaccine rollout was starting with highly vulnerable people like health workers. “I am also looking at which of the vaccines should I go for.”

Uganda began vaccinating health workers and the elderly last week after receiving 864,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine from COVAX, the World Health Organisation-backed program to provide vaccines to poor and developing countries.
The vaccination campaign was launched last week by minister of Health Dr Ruth Acheng and Permanent Secretary Dr Diana Atwine.
