As Ugandans continue to increasingly pick interest in rearing pets, a place for their treats has been missing on the shopping menu of Kampala.

City businessman Rajiv Ruparelia’s wife, Naiya, has come out to scoop the  opportunity and will this weekend launch her new business in dog and other pets’ products.

Dubbed “Kaya’s Kitchen”, Ms. Naiya Ruparelia says this is an upscale pet shop to be located in Kampala’s suburb, Kololo, one of the hubs for pet owners.

According to the proprietor(s), Kaya’s Kitchen will see pet owners find a one-stop shopping centre for their pets’ care as a retail outlet for organic, specialty pet food.

“Pet parents can stop at the store and shop for pet treats, food, grooming products, pet accessories and toys.”

The launch for the new pet shop is scheduled to take place along the grand opening of partners Ark Organics shop at the Explorer’s Hub at Plot 4 Lower Kololo Terrace Road.

The Ruparelia family are serial entrepreneurs, and Naiya seeing a gap in the dog care industry is not surprising. There are not statistics pointing to the number of pets in Uganda, however recent years have seen more people buying especially dogs as pets.
