Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice within the first hour of his Manchester United return on Saturday as the Red Devils hosted Newcastle United on Matchday 4.

The 36-year-old broke the deadlock just seconds before the half-time interval when he converted from close range.

The Potuguese superstar, in his second stint with the club, found the back of the net late in the first half to give his team a 1-0 lead before scoring early in the second half. The striker was attentive to a blunder by the Newcastle goalkeeper, pouncing on a loose ball for an easy tap-in to make it 1-0.

It was a quick, expected start after CR7 was named to the starting XI for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The ball came off a blocked shot from Mason Greenwood, and Ronaldo was just in the right spot at the right time.

Newcastle’s Javier Manquillo levelled the score with his first goal for Newcastle, only for Ronaldo to restore United’s lead with a fine finish in the 62nd minute.

The second goal came on a quick, lovely build up for the hosts, with Luke Shaw playing a fine through ball. Ronaldo got the ball at the top of the box, took quality touches to get a bit of space and nutmegged the goalkeeper to make it 2-0.

Bruno Fernandes then scored with a stunning long-range shot from outside the box that curled into the top corner. Substitute Jesse Lingard added the fourth on the brink of full-time.

The win put United top of the Premier League table, with 10 points. Newcastle remain in the relegation zone having picked up just one point from their opening four games.
