Uganda will today observe the 35th Heroes’ Day Anniversary Celebrations under the theme “Hail Our Legends: A Secure Uganda Is Now a Reality”at Mpenja Church of Uganda Primary School Playgrounds in Mpenja Sub-County, Gomba District.

The historical day will reflect on the contributions of the national heroes and heroines in the political and socio-economic transformation of Uganda, says Hon. Babirye Milly Babalanda, Minister for the Presidency.

“The key word in this year’s theme is “secure” or “security” in Uganda. Indeed, there are many forms of security. It could be cyber security, financial security, information security, operational security, etc.

“However, for proper positioning of the theme, we are talking about the political and socio-economic security of our country, Uganda, which henceforth supports any other form of security for our people to enjoy their motherland.” Babalanda said

The 35th Heroes Day will be celebrated in Mpenja, Gomba, as the area was a resistance corridor for the Uganda Freedom Movement and FEDEMU fighters.

The area served as a route for new NRA recruits from the western part of Uganda. The late Col. Poteli Kivuna, Maj. Victor Bwana, Lt. Kutesa Nyenyezi, Maj. Gen. John Mugume, and others were key coordinators of these recruitments.

Many brave fighters from Gomba and the greater Mpigi area survived the violent murders of the Uganda People’s Congress regime.

To celebrate the supreme sacrifice that was paid by the forerunners, the statue of Kasoliwegomba will be mounted in the district. The location of the monument will carry added historical meaning.

A total of 53 people across the country will be awarded various categories of medals by His Excellency the President, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.

The Crown Prince of the United Arab Emirates, Mr. Maktoum, will receive the highest medal of the Pearl of Africa Grand Master Class One.citezens interaction.
