President Yoweri Museveni has appointed Vice President Maj. Jessica Alupo to represent him at the swearing-in ceremony of Rwandan President-elect Maj. Gen. Paul Kagame.

The inauguration is set to take place tomorrow, Sunday, August 11, in Kigali, the capital of Rwanda.

In a letter dated August 5, 2024, from the Principal Private Secretary to the President, Gloria Asio Omaswa, it was noted that following Kagame’s re-election in the recent presidential election, the Rwandan government extended an invitation to President Museveni to attend the ceremony.

However, due to his tight schedule, President Museveni will be unable to travel to Rwanda and has chosen Vice President Alupo to represent Uganda at the event.

“H.E. Gen. Museveni has designated you (Vice President) to attend the swearing-in on his behalf,” the letter to Vice President Alupo reads.

Kagame secured re-election with an overwhelming majority in the election held on July 14-15, 2024, winning over 95% of the vote.

Uganda and Rwanda maintain strong bilateral relations, underpinned by robust trade and diplomatic cooperation between the two neighbouring countries.
