Two opposition MPs Muhammad Ssegirinya and Allan Ssewanyana of Kawempe North and Makindye West constituencies have reapplied for court bail after being re-arrested and remanded over fresh charges connected to the recent killings in the greater subregion.

Ssegirinya and Ssewanyana both from the National Unity Platform (NUP) have listed new grounds which they want the court to consider releasing them from Kigo Prison where they were both remanded.

The MPs in the 11 grounds listed claim that they are suffering from health complications that require serious medical attention they have not been able to receive while in detention.

In the same application, the duo told the court that they have fixed places of abode, substantial sureties who will assure that they attend court wherever they are required; and they are willing to abide by all Bail terms that court may find necessary.

In his affidavit to support the bail application, Mr Ssewanyana contends that on September 3, he received criminal summons through the Speaker of Parliament from the CID requiring him to appear at Masaka police for questioning over the Masaka killings.

He adds that they were later charged before Masaka Chief Magistrate’s Court with murder and attempted murder for which they applied and were released on bail.

According to the Deputy Court Registrar Agnes Nkonge, the duo had been asked to return today because High Court Judge Victoria Nkonge was indisposed.

The duo last week were driven back to Masaka High court where they were charged with another count of murder and later on remanded by Masaka Chief Magistrates Court to Kigo prison following their re-arrested by security operatives outside kigo prison after the court had granted them bail last month.
