I Have Been Secretly Working With FDC’s Dr Nabwiso & He Had Embraced NRM Govt -Museveni

The late Dr. Frank Nabwiso, a former Kagoma MP and seasoned political figure, was laid to rest in Mutai village, Jinja District, amidst remarks highlighting his contributions to national development and his evolving political allegiances.

During the funeral, State Minister for Lands, Housing, and Urban Development, Ms. Persis Namuganza, delivered President Yoweri Museveni’s condolence message, emphasizing Dr. Nabwiso’s historical ties to the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM). She revealed that the former legislator had recently rejoined the NRM before his passing, despite his association with the opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) in recent years.

“The President sends his condolences and acknowledges Dr. Nabwiso’s initial journey with the NRM. Even though he was later identified with FDC, he had come back to the NRM fold,” Ms. Namuganza told mourners.

Ms. Namuganza also disclosed that President Museveni had pledged to visit Dr. Nabwiso’s family during his upcoming tour of the Busoga sub-region in January, where he will evaluate the progress of government programs like the Parish Development Model (PDM). She added that the President had contributed UGX 20 million to support the burial arrangements and promised additional assistance to settle outstanding expenses.

Minister for the Presidency, Ms. Milly Babalanda, further highlighted Dr. Nabwiso’s efforts to promote unity among political leaders in Busoga. She noted that Dr. Nabwiso had met with President Museveni earlier this year at State House to discuss strategies for fostering cohesion in the region.

However, the absence of a state burial sparked disappointment among opposition leaders. FDC National Chairman, Mr. Jack Sabiti, lamented the missed opportunity to honor Dr. Nabwiso’s multifaceted contributions to Uganda.

“Dr. Nabwiso was not only a politician but also an educationist, researcher, journalist, and musician who dedicated his life to national unity and progress. He deserved the recognition of a state burial,” Mr. Sabiti said.

Dr. Nabwiso’s legacy extends beyond politics, with a distinguished record as a peace advocate. Notably, he played a pivotal role in the 1985 Nairobi peace talks, which laid the groundwork for President Museveni’s ascent to power. Despite his influence, Mr. Sabiti noted that Dr. Nabwiso never sought high-ranking positions, reflecting his commitment to service over personal ambition.

As mourners celebrated his life, many reflected on Dr. Nabwiso’s enduring impact on Uganda’s political and social landscape, leaving behind a legacy of unity, humility, and dedication to development.
