Education Ministry Releases Program For Reopening Schools Amid Strict Covid-19 Measures

The Ministry of Education and Sports has Wednesday released a roadmap for Primary, Secondary and Technical/ Farm schools and Community polytechnics for the academic year 2022.

In a statement released by the Ministry on Wednesday December 15, all schools countrywide will reopen on Monday January 10th, 2022, with the first term running until Friday 15th April 2022.

The second term according to the school calendar will commence on 9th May 2022 to 12th August 2022 and the third on 5th September 2022 to Friday 9th December 2022.

The statement also adds that all learners who were in non candidate classes are to automatically proceed to the next respective classes and remedial classes will be offered to them in the first term to help them catch up.

According to the Ministry, only children aged 6 years will be allowed to join Primary One (P.1) whereas S.2 learners whose parents had fully paid schools fees before the second lock down shall not pay for the first term after reopening.

The Ministry further adds that Government will not be able to provide financial relief to private schools but owners have been urged to take advantage of the COVID-19 relief measures that have been offered by various agencies.
