If you thought there is any sphere of influence in this town into which Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia (arguably richest man in Uganda) doesn’t intent to dominate, just read this.

Already a dominant force with a compelling presence in provision of education, leisure & hospitality, real estate, medical, labor externalization, agriculture and media services, the Ruparelia Group has newly incorporated a company to go into the construction industry too where he will be competing with giants like Seyani Brothers and others.

Renowned for being one who craves for new challenges all the time, Sudhir will also be competing with the Chinese who for decades have been having a lion’s share of the infrastructure construction deals.

The man, who owns countless buildings in the Kampala CDB and upscale neighbourhoods like Munyonyo and Kololo, must equally be strategizing to fill the vacuum left by the crumbling of giants like Roko Construction and the latest we have is that he is on the verge of being contracted to construct the Uganda Development Bank (UDB) headquarters at the location where the Pastel Building (formerly headquarters of OPM) currently stands.

It’s a multi-billion job and wining the contract will effectively launch the shrewd Ruparelia Group into the construction space where they intend to dominate in areas like building, road and other public infrastructure construction.
