The Archbishop of Gulu His Grace John Baptist Odama one of the religious leaders from the greater North urged leaders to desist from fanning tribal divisions and called for peaceful mourning of the Speaker of Parliament Jacob Oulanyah.

In his message to mourners and the entire country Archbishop Odama has urged everyone to forget everything but instead reconcile, pray for Oulanyah`s soul, and do not hold grudge against anybody as they bid him farewell.

’’This type of speech is unacceptable because the most dangerous thing that we are seeing is hate speech, saying that we condemn those who are using the media spaces to perpetrate hate speech,” Odama added

Similarly the Bishop of Lira Diocese Rt. Rev. Sanctus Lino Wanok, the chairperson of the Religious leaders from Lango says Oulanyah was a champion for peace whose death should not cause conflicts and division among the people.

Rt. Rev. Sanctus Lino Wanok said that at such a time, Ugandans should come together to mourn the death of the deceased speaker of parliament.

In recent weeks,a section of Ugandans have since taken to media to make memes and “inhumane” comments about the speakers death
Oulanyah died on Sunday morning March 20th 2022 from Seattle in the United States of America where he was rushed on February 3rd for specialized treatment. It is said he died of Cancer. However his death has caused uproar among the people and leaders from Northern region demanding investigation into Oulanyah’s death ring fence the position of the speaker which has since been resolved and sectarian utterances that have been condemned.

The leaders under their Religious Forum have asked the people of Uganda, Acholi Sub-region, and Oulanyah’s family, in particular, to observe the mood of peace at this trying moment and mourn with hope.
