People Power Coordinators Face Arrest Over Iganga Riots

Police detectives have mounted a hunt for members of people Power a pressure group led by MP Hon Ssentamu Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine on allegations that they assaulted, incited violence and caused chaos in Iganga last week.

It is alleged that last week, People Power hired some goons from Kampala, Mukono, and Jinja Districtz who went to Iganga, and ordered people not to participate in the ongoing, National voters’ registration and those who rejected their plans were seriously beaten and their properties destroyed.

“After causing some chaos, we managed to arrest some but the majority who had come from Kampala escaped the arrest and we are pursuing them,” says security adding that they want to have them arrested during this festival season.

The security operatives added that one of the leaders from Kampala who is on their list is Namyalo Margret around 29 years of age and a resident of Munyonyo, in Makindye division Kampala District. “We have already identified Namyalo and we have her pictures, she is the one who led the youth from Kampala to Iganga and caused chaos, we are trailing her and other colleagues who are still in hiding,” says another security officer who is part of the operation.

He added that police had earlier arrested Namyalo but escaped from them as they were taking her to Iganga police station. “This lady has several cases including assaulting police officers who were on duty,” says a police officer in Iganga.

The officer says the wanted persons are facing several charges that include, theft, threatening violence, Inciting violence assault among others.

When contacted Joel Senyonyi the Spokesperson for People Power says their supporters have no cases to answer but police want to destabilize them during festival season.
