The Electoral Commission (EC) has vacated Jinja Road based offices the process commences on Friday 16th December 2023.

The Uganda Electoral Body Thursday released a statement notifying its workers that 15th December 2022, is the last day of occupancy of the current premises to pave way for continued construction of Kampala flyover project which kicked off in 2019.

Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) which oversees the project had several times complained that the project delayed because the Uganda Electoral Commission had failed to shift, which was costing government shs 300m daily.

In 2019, UNRA paid EC shs 22 billion as compensation and facilitate the quick process of vacating the Jinja Road premises opposite the famous Centenary Park.

According to Mulekwa Leonard the Secretary to the Commission, the commission will shift to National Housing building at Plot 1-3/5, 7th Street temporarily. The new office premises will be open to the general public on Monday 16th January 2023.

“We shall be there as we wait for National Housing to complete our offices,” he said.(graha)
