Sixteen passengers have been confirmed dead after a moving bus knocked a trailer along Kampala-Gulu highway.

Eye witnesses say a bus registration number UAT 259P which belongs to Roblyn bus company was traveling from Kampala to Gulu before it rammed into a stationary trailer that was loading at Adebe trading center.

The same has been confirmed by North Kyoga Region Police Spokesperson, SP Patrick Jimmy Okema who says 12 people died on the spot while four others died at Atapara Hospital where they had been rushed for treatment.

”So far, 16 dead bodies have been conveyed to Anyeke Health IV for postmortem.”

Asked about the cause of the accident, Okema said, ”preliminary findings indicate wrong parking by the trailer driver who didn’t even display warning signs.”
