The Electoral Commission (EC) of Uganda has on Wednesday, August 2, 2023, launched its strategic plan 2022-2027 at Hotel Africana in Kampala with a road map for the general election 2025/2026.

During the launch, the Chairperson of Electoral Commission, Justice Simon Byabakama outlined the objective of the EC which is to deliver free and fair elections and referendum.

“Our strategic plan is designed to enable us deliver a free and fair election on this I promise we will, and also strengthen stake holder’s participation in the coming elections,” Byabakama said.

In his key note address, the Commissioner thanked the government for always supporting EC.

“I have never doubted the government’s commitment to fund our electoral process and we thank the government for that,” Byabakama added. The Commissioner noted that, the road-map will improve planning for the coming elections and timely implementation of all planned activities.

The Commissioner also requested government to ensure that electoral reforms and electoral laws are worked on to enable the Commission to deliver free and fair elections come 2026.

“We also urge the government to ensure that new administrative units created by government are streamlined early to enable the Commission plan for them better. The Commission will also hold elections as new administrative units with newly elected leaders,” Byabakama Stated.

In his concluding remarks, the Chairperson Electoral Commission warned the politicians that the launch of the electoral road map is not an authorization for campaigns and consultations, but rather, they should leave Ugandans to participate in government programs like Emyooga and Parish Development Model (PDM) to create more wealth for their households.
