Uganda Wildlife Conservation Education Centre (UWEC) has finalised plans establishing Regional Wildlife Conservations centres , also known as Zoos across the country to help boost tourism and conserve biodiversity. The plans were disclosed by Dr. James Musinguzi, UWEC Executive Director, after signing a Memorandum of Understanding with the National Forestry Authority (NFA) allowing the allocation of land for the regional Zoos. According to the MOU, the regional zoos will be located in the Central Forest Reserves of Mbale, Ruti in Mbarara, Abera in Gulu, and Oruha in Kyenjojo, each measuring a maximum of 60 hectares, respectively, for purposes of forest restoration, wildlife conservation, and promotion of tourism.
