Unfair: New Vision On The Spot For Defaming Former NAGRC ED Dr.Lagu

Former Executive Director of the National Animal Genetic Resources Centre and Data Bank (NAGRC&DB), Dr. Charles Lagu is poised to drag The New vision Newspaper to court for maliciously publishing falsehoods and breach of the subjudice rule.

Through his lawyers of Mwesigwa Rukutana advocates,Dr. Charles Lagu, contends that on 16th day of August, 2023 on page 9, New vision Published an article under the headline “Shs.1.3 bn Animal Semen Contract not cleared- PPDA Boss”. In this article, it is alleged that Dr Lagu flouted established
PPDA procedures which he says the article published uninformed, one sided and malicious because of pending case in the High Court of Uganda.
“Had you cared to inquire, as professionals ought to do, you would have discovered that the allegation is
false as the contract was actually cleared by the Solicitor General in accordance with the law” Dr Lagu told New vision.
He added” Consequently, the publication was in breach of the sub judice rule and also painted me as corrupt and incompetent.
The purpose hereof is to demand that you publish a correction and,apologise  within 3 days from the date of receipt of this letter”

Dr Lagu says that should Newvision fail to act in accordance herewith, he is going to go to Court to hold them liable for breach of the sub judice rule and, defaming him in the process of their publications.
Recently,the Director of Public Prosecutions dropped charges of abuse of office that had been sanctioned against Dr.Lagu.
