A worrying photo has circulated on social media showing how the Former Security Minister Lieutenant General, Henry Tumukunde who is under detention Special Investigations Unit (SIU) in Kireka handcuffed.

The photo shows the General and Presidential contender clad in a hooded jumper handcuffed and extremely worried.

The Police said he will face treason charges following his arrest on Thursday night

Police Spokesman Fed Enanga said in a statement that the charges are related to the presidential aspirant soliciting support from neighboring countries, one of them understood to be Rwanda in his bid against the Kampala establishment.

Military sources on Thursday, March 12, 2020, had already indicated that Gen. Tumukunde, who was arrested in a joint operation by Special Forces Command (SFC) and the Uganda Police would be charged in General Court-Martial on Friday, March 13, 2020.

Mr. Enanga in a statement on Friday said Gen. Tumukunde’s arrest follows his utterances in a series of radio and television interviews, which the police say “seek to foster hatred that might lead to inter-community violence, fomenting and glorifying violence in general”.

Mr. Enanga said that Tumukunde has been soliciting support from a neighboring country to support him in removing the current leadership with or without the ballot.

Enanga didn’t mention the country but sources indicate the country to be Rwanda.

“He is, therefore, being charged under Sections 23 (2) b and 23 (3) b, of the Penal code Act, which deals with instigating persons to invade the Republic of Uganda and inciting any persons to make a mutinous assembly.”
Gen. Tumukunde last week announced he will run for president in 2021.
