Kagame Cuts Top Gov’t Officials April Salaries To Free Up Funds To Curb Coronavirus

The Government of Rwanda has ordered chopping off of April Salaries from all Cabinet Members, Permanent Secretaries, Heads of Public Institutions, and other senior officials as a way of collecting money to fight Covid-19.

The big announcement was issued on 5, April, 2020, by the Prime Minister’s office who said, the forfeit is in solidarity with the most affected Rwandans.

“In the context of the fight against Covid-19, and in solidarity with the most affected Rwandans, the Government of Rwanda has decided, over and above ongoing social protection initiatives, that all Cabinet Members, Permanent Secretaries, Heads of Public Institutions, and other senior officials shall forfeit one month’s salary (April),” part of the statement reads.

The prime minister further thanked Rwandans for being supportive and adhering to measures put by the government. “We thank all Rwandans for their continued support and adherence to the measures announced by the Government against Covid-19.
Together we shall rein in this pandemic,” the statement reads.
