After a rigorous and successful tour of Kenya and Tanzania, Bebe Cool, real name Moses Ssali, has embarked on his next tour destination, London in the UK.
Bebe Cool who has visited London many times, in various capacities, flew out on Monday night (yesterday), this time round, to promote his sophomore album, Break the Chains.
London, holds a special place in the hearts of people who love Afrobeats, it’s the designated Mecca of Afrobeats- thanks to the diverse population of Africans living and working in the city.
Besides that though, from Fela Kuti to Burna Boy, most of Afrobeats legends and current stars, have worked or stayed in London at one point.
London is a marvel of cultural activities, a melting pot of pan Africanism with Ugandans, Kenyans, Tanzanians and Nigerians among others living in the same city.
Over the years, most of the Afrobeats trends, be it Azonto or Afrotech, to Afrohouse, have all started taking shape in London before blowing up in other parts of Europe and the world.
In fact, it was in London that Kanye West announced he had signed D’Banj.
It’s also the home of different Afrobeats producers and engineers.
What Bebe Cool, however, takes to London, is his new album, Break the Chains; seeking to tap into the wisdom of the city’s culture.
Bebe Cool will be making a number of appearances on both traditional and new media, such as podcasts and social media platforms.
He will also meet a number of taste makers of London’s music scene.
It should be noted that on this album, Bebe Cool features Kenyan, UK based producer- DJ Edu on the Games track.
DJ Edu is a big part of the Afrobeats movement in London, thanks to his show on BBC and strategic collaborations- such as Too Easy, alongside former Sauti Sol front man, Bien and Controller, besides Onesimus and Joeboy.
DJ Edu has already premiered his remix of Bebe Cool and Joshua Baraka’s Cheque on his BBC One Xtra.
In the lead up to the album’s release, Bebe Cool closely worked with media personality, Adesope, featuring on his podcast, and the later being the host of the Break The Chains album listening party in Kampala. The two are going to work closely on the London media tour.
Bebe Cool’s tour in the UK is the first of the overseas media tour which is expected to cover other European cities before he sets off for the United States of America, and other parts of the world.
