A woman in Luwero has been electrocuted while fixing a faulty TV antenna.

The deceased has been identified as Betty Nampijja aged 23 years, a resident of Kalagala village in Kikyusa sub-county.

John Ojokuna the Luwero District Police Commander says that Nampijja bought a TV set on 31 December, 2023 and the following day she erected an antenna near a high power voltage wire to boost its signal.

He adds that on Tuesday at around 5:00 pm, Nampijja attempted to fix the antenna after the electrician delayed responding to her request.

“Unfortunately Nampijja was electrocuted and by the time the husband arrived, he found her dead,” Ojokuna said.

“We caution the public to restrain themselves from executing tasks for which they don’t have experience or qualifications. The deceased was advised to wait for an electrician but she decided to fix the antenna by herself which resulted in her death,” Ojokuna said.

Police later alerted the UMEME branch office at Luwero town which switched off the power line.
