Olympic Champion Joshua Cheptegei Backs Museveni’s 2026 Presidential Bid

Reigning Olympic 10,000m champion Joshua Cheptegei has publicly endorsed the re-election of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for the term 2026-2031.

Chepetegi who is also the current world record holder over 5000 metres and the 10,000 metres commands a lot of respect and authority among the Sebei community and Uganda at large.
“NRM oyee, President Museveni Oyee” he energetically pumped as addressed multitudes of people in his native Sebei language.
“We have peace in our area with no security insurgencies like in the past. There is development with the connection to the national power grid, good tarmacked roads and people can do business now” he added.

Cheptegei is a typical role model to millions of Ugandans for his diligence in long distance running and is also a successful businessman who has inspired many of the Sebei people to be self sustaining.

He also commended President Museveni’s government for keeping a keen eye on the development of the sports sub-sector with increased funding, infrastructural development with the Tryet High Altitude Training Center in Kapchorwa a key examples in the Sebei region.

Other sports infrastructural developments in the current regime include the Hoima City International Stadium, Akii Bua Stadium in Lira and the redeveloped Mandela National Stadium.
President Museveni successfully completed the Sebei Sub-region campaign trail with two massive rallies in Kween and Kapchorwa districts.

Next on the trail whose theme is “Protecting The Gains” is the Bukedi region.
President Museveni has over the previous weeks preached and stressed Peace, Security, Development, Wealth and Jobs Creation among the key points of his manifesto heading to the next Kisanja 2026-2031.
