The Member of Parliament for Igara East County and Director of Mobilization for the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), Hon. Michael Mawanda Maranga, was earlier today present at Nyakabirizi playground in Bushenyi, where he joined mourners in receiving the body of the late Hazidah Bassajabalaba, mother of renowned businessman Hajji Hassan Bassajabalaba.

The late Hazidah’s remains were flown in by helicopter from Kampala, touching down at Nyakabirizi playground where family, friends, and community members had gathered in large numbers. Among those present was Hajji Hassan Bassajabalaba, who, together with his relatives, received the body of their beloved matriarch amid an atmosphere of grief and solemnity.

Hon. Mawanda extended heartfelt condolences to the Bassajabalaba family, acknowledging the impact of the late Hazidah on her community and praising her role in raising a family that has contributed significantly to the region’s development. He encouraged the family to remain strong during this difficult time and commended the community for standing in solidarity with them.

Meanwhile, in Bushenyi, mourners continue to gather at the ancestral home in Katungu, Ishaka–Bushenyi Municipality, where the official vigil is being held. Friends, relatives, and local leaders have converged to pay their respects as preparations for the final send-off, scheduled for 16th November, move forward.

The community has described the late Hazidah Bassajabalaba as a respected and generous figure whose legacy will continue to live on through her family and the many people whose lives she touched.
