National Patriotic Corps Coordinator Hellen Seku has urged youth in Sheema District to seize opportunities offered through the Presidential Skilling Hubs saying the initiative is key to tackling rising unemployment among young Ugandans.
Addressing over 500 students and youth at Kabwohe Gardens in Kabwohe Town Council, Seku said President Museveni has put all necessary tools in place to ensure young people can acquire employable skills, start businesses and lift themselves out of poverty.
“The President has Ugandan youth at heart. He has invested in free education, free immunisation and now free skilling hubs where even those who never reached school can train for six months and walk away with both skills and start-up support,” she said.
Seku noted that trainees at the hubs receive free training, accommodation and feeding before being supported with start-up capital and market linkages upon graduation.
She cited the directive by First Lady and Education minister Janet Museveni instructing government offices to procure carpentry products from skilling hub graduates as one of the steps aimed at boosting youth enterprises.
“With these opportunities, any Ugandan who fails to get out of poverty has a problem because the systems are in place and the support is available,” she said.
She further revealed that the Graduates Fund, expected to become operational by June 2026, will provide financing for young professionals a move she believes will reduce the number of Ugandan graduates seeking low-paying jobs in the Middle East.
On politics, Seku called on youth in Sheema to turn up in large numbers to support and protect President Museveni’s vote in the January 15, 2026 general elections saying the future of the country remains firmly in the hands of the young generation.
The mobilisation event was part of ongoing National Patriotic Corps engagements with student and youth groups ahead of the election period.
