Through the State House Local Content Unit led by Special Presidential Assistant (SPA) Hajjat Aminah Mukalazi, H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, President of the Republic of Uganda, has donated Robusta Elite coffee seedlings to farmers in the Kigezi Sub-region. The distribution officially commenced Monday, Dec 22nd , starting with Kabale and Rukiga Districts.

The coffee seedling donation follows the President’s recent support to farmers in the same region through the provision of passion fruit seedlings. Both interventions are part of the Activity Based Mobilization Program coordinated by SPA Hajjat Aminah Mukalazi, which is aimed at empowering farmers to engage in profitable, enterprise-driven agriculture.

Under this program, farmers in the Kigezi Sub-region received training on commercial farming of coffee and passion fruits in June 2025. The training equipped beneficiaries with knowledge on improved agronomic practices, enterprise selection, and market-oriented production. In October 2025, the program further delivered a total of 800,000 passion fruit seedlings to farmers across the region.

The distribution of Robusta Elite coffee seedlings, which began Monday , is expected to run until 29th December 2025. In addition to Kabale and Rukiga, other districts set to benefit from the ongoing exercise include Ntungamo, Rukungiri, Kanungu, Ibanda, Sheema, Masaka, Bukomansimbi, Nakasongola, and Mpigi.

The Activity Based Mobilization Program has been in implementation since 2015 and continues to play a significant role in transforming livelihoods across the country. To date, more than 420,000 farmers have benefited from the program through access to quality agricultural inputs, skills training, and sustained government support.

By integrating training with the distribution of high-quality seedlings, the initiative seeks to enhance productivity, boost household incomes, and promote sustainable commercial agriculture. The coffee and passion fruit enterprises, in particular, are expected to contribute to increased farmer earnings and long-term economic growth within the beneficiary communities.

Farmers in Rukiga and Kabale Districts, who have recently embraced coffee as their next major cash crop, have appealed to H.E. the President to scale up support through increased provision of coffee seedlings to meet the high and growing demand in the area. For many years, the two districts largely depended on eucalyptus trees, tobacco, and subsistence farming practices, which farmers say kept them outside the money economy and limited opportunities for sustainable income growth.

With a renewed focus on coffee production, farmers expressed strong enthusiasm to expand acreage under coffee, noting that increased production would attract the establishment of coffee processing factories in the region. They believe this would significantly boost employment opportunities, value addition, and wealth creation within their communities.

The farmers also expressed heartfelt appreciation to H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, SPA Hajjat Aminah Mukalazi, and the Passion Focus Uganda Ltd team for their continued support and commitment to driving economic transformation in the region.

Under the current program, a total of 500,000 coffee seedlings is expected to be distributed to farmers in the beneficiary districts.
