he Minister of Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Judith Nabakooba, narrowly survived a road accident on Wednesday morning in Mpigi District.

The incident occurred at Kibukuta swamp near Jalia City along the busy Kampala–Masaka highway, a major transport corridor connecting central and southwestern Uganda.

According to eyewitnesses, the crash involved multiple passengers and vehicles, resulting in the death of one woman at the scene, while several others sustained injuries.

Minister Nabakooba, who was reportedly en route to Rwampara District to preside over a land title distribution ceremony, was quickly evacuated from the scene and rushed to Nkozi Hospital for medical attention.

Preliminary reports indicate that slippery road conditions may have contributed to the accident, although authorities had not yet released an official statement regarding the exact cause by press time.
Despite the severity of the crash, officials confirmed that the minister is in stable condition and responding well to treatment.

The Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development extended condolences to the family of the deceased and pledged support to those who were injured in the incident.

The accident has once again raised concerns about road safety along the Kampala–Masaka highway, particularly in areas prone to hazardous driving conditions such as swamps and sharp bends.

Further updates are expected as investigations into the cause of the crash continue.
