Business magnate and philanthropist Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia has reaffirmed his commitment to community development after donating UGX 50 million to the Teso Kingdom during the closing ceremony of the Rajiv Ruparelia Memorial Eye Camp in Bukedea District.

The three-day eye camp, held at Bukedea Teaching Hospital, attracted thousands of patients from across Eastern Uganda who received free medical services including eye screening, treatment, surgeries, and prescription glasses.

Dr. Sudhir, through the Ruparelia Foundation, made the donation as part of efforts to strengthen partnerships with cultural institutions and support health initiatives across the country.

In recognition of his contribution to the community, Dr. Sudhir and his wife, Jyotsna Ruparelia, were officially inducted into the Iteso community by the Emorimor of Teso, His Royal Highness Paul Sande Emolot III. During the ceremony, Dr. Sudhir was given the Iteso name “Eminat Sudhir” as a symbol of acceptance and unity.

The event also featured the donation of a new ambulance to the people of Bukedea. The ambulance, donated by Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among and Kachumbala County MP-elect David Beecham Okwere, is expected to improve emergency response and access to healthcare services in the district.

Foundation for its continued support in healthcare and social development, noting that the eye camp has significantly improved access to specialized medical care for underserved communities.

The Rajiv Ruparelia Memorial Eye Camp continues to grow into one of the region’s most impactful medical outreaches, restoring sight, reducing preventable blindness, and improving the quality of life for thousands of people across Eastern Uganda.
