At 70, Josephine Nakaliisa Lukoma has watched her family grow through countless milestones.
But last weekend, she found herself stepping into an unfamiliar spotlight the Miss Uganda runway, hand in hand with her granddaughter.
Known affectionately as Jajja Josephine, Mrs Lukoma joined her granddaughter, Naggayi Almorie, on the runway during the Miss Uganda 2026 Top Model night.
The challenge invited contestants to walk with someone special in their lives. While the runway is usually associated with young models, Almorie chose to share her moment with the woman whose place in her life goes far beyond being a grandmother.
It was a simple walk, but one that carried decades of family history.
Almorie later shared the moment with her followers on Instagram, explaining why she chose her grandmother.

“I decided to walk with my grandmother because she’s such a testament and a monument in my life.”
For the 19-year-old contestant, having Jajja Josephine beside her was a way of celebrating a woman who has been part of the family story long before Almorie ever dreamed of competing for a crown.
A Family’s Pageant Story
What makes the moment even more remarkable is that Almorie is not the first woman in her family to enter the Miss Uganda journey.
Her mother, Rachael Mwagale, also contested for Miss Uganda at the age of 19.
Now, years later, Rachael’s daughter is the same age and walking toward the same crown.
That connection creates an unusual three-generation story.
Jajja Josephine once watched her daughter step into the world of beauty and pageantry. Today, she is watching her granddaughter take a similar step.

The circumstances may be different, and each woman has her own personality, ambitions and journey, but the family connection remains.
For Josephine, the Top Model night therefore offered more than a glamorous evening.
It gave her an opportunity to stand beside the newest generation of a family whose women have continued to embrace confidence and ambition.
More Than Beauty
Pageantry often places the spotlight on gowns, make-up, photographs and runway walks.
But behind every contestant is a story of family, encouragement and the people who helped her become the woman she is.
For Almorie, that support has been especially important.
Her mother, Rachael, has remained an important influence in her development, encouraging her to explore different interests and pursue opportunities that have helped build her confidence.

Almorie has since developed interests and experience in areas ranging from sport and media to public speaking, diplomacy and fashion.
Her journey has taken her from becoming the inaugural Miss Uganda High School 2024/25 to representing Uganda internationally at Miss Teen International in India.
She has also represented Uganda in swimming and explored other sporting disciplines, while her interest in global affairs and public speaking has given her experiences beyond the pageant world.
Now, as she competes for the Miss Uganda 2026 crown, her family is once again watching from the sidelines — only this time, one of them has stepped onto the runway with her.
Jajja’s Moment
For the audience, seeing a 70-year-old grandmother confidently walking beside a young pageant contestant was an unexpected highlight of the evening.

For Almorie, it was much more personal.
The runway gave her a chance to publicly acknowledge the woman who has witnessed different chapters of her family’s story.
There was something symbolic about the two walking together: one representing experience and generations of family memories, the other representing youth and the possibilities still ahead.
And somewhere between the cameras, applause and lights, three generations seemed to meet.
Rachael once stood where her daughter now stands. Jajja Josephine watched her then.
Today, she watches again — but this time, she is part of the walk.
As the Miss Uganda 2026 finale approaches, Almorie will continue her own pursuit of the crown.
Whatever happens on the final night, however, she already has a moment that will remain part of her family’s story.
Because on that runway, Almorie did not simply walk with her grandmother, she walked with a piece of her family’s history.
