Noah Mutwe, one of the bodyguards to Uganda’s opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, has allegedly been abducted, according to a statement made by the party chief on the evening of Thursday, May 15, 2025.

This latest incident adds to a string of actions targeting Bobi Wine’s close security personnel. Previously, another bodyguard, Edward Ssebuufu
commonly referred to as Eddie Mutwe was remanded to Masaka Prison on robbery charges.

According to Bobi Wine, Noah Mutwe was seized in Gomba District under violent circumstances. He claimed that unidentified individuals, travelling in a vehicle without license plates, first detained Mutwe’s uncle. The abductors then forced the uncle to lead them to Noah Mutwe’s residence in Gombe, where they allegedly took him away.

“These men, looking more like thugs than security agents, put his uncle in handcuffs before forcing him to direct them to Noah’s home,” Bobi Wine shared. “They kidnapped him aggressively, and as of now, we have no information about where he was taken.”

Bobi Wine condemned the incident as part of a wider campaign of intimidation meant to instill fear among Ugandans.

“They commit these atrocities against our people hoping to scare us into submission. But instead, they strengthen our resolve to fight for justice and freedom,” he stated.

At the time of reporting, the destination of Noah Mutwe and the specific reasons for his abduction remained unknown.

Earlier that same day, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba issued threats via social media, declaring intentions to arrest Bobi Wine. He referenced past detentions of opposition figures, including Kizza Besigye and Eddie Mutwe.

“We arrested KB [Kizza Besigye], then Eddie Mutwe. Next is Kabobi [Bobi Wine]. You think this is a game? I haven’t even begun,” Muhoozi posted.

In further inflammatory remarks, he threatened violence against any NUP supporter involved in public unrest and appeared to celebrate the beating of Eddie Mutwe.

“Did I beat Eddie enough? Retweet if you agree, like if you don’t. I’m proud our army dealt with him harshly and there’s more to come,” he wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

Muhoozi also criticized Uganda Human Rights Commission chairperson Mariam Wangadya for urging the release of Eddie Mutwe and warned her to retract her statement. He further threatened to expel European Union officials who had recently met with Bobi Wine.
