Sheikh Siliman Kasule Ndirangwa, a respected figure in Uganda’s Muslim community and former Supreme Mufti of the Kibuli-based Muslim administration, has died at the age of 65.

Family members and senior Muslim clerics confirmed that Sheikh Ndirangwa passed away on Friday, June 21, 2025.

He had been a leading religious authority and spiritual guide for many years, gaining national recognition for his calm demeanor and efforts to foster unity.

Sheikh Ndirangwa led the Kibuli faction until April 2021, when he stepped down from his position under what many described as challenging internal dynamics.

At the time, he emphasized the importance of harmony among Muslims, expressing hope that his resignation would contribute to greater cohesion within the faith.

Born in Kawempe, a suburb of Kampala, Sheikh Ndirangwa built a reputation as a peacebuilder and advocate for community progress. He was known for promoting education, economic empowerment, and respectful engagement across religious lines. His voice was often heard urging Muslims to be active participants in national development.

Preparations for his final rites are ongoing, with an official burial program expected to be announced by the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council. The country’s Muslim community and wider public continue to mourn a leader many viewed as a symbol of balance and wisdom.
