Police in Oyam are searching for an unknown assailant who shot and injured three people during a robbery in Loro Town Council on Tuesday night. The suspect who was donning military attire and carrying a gun entered a hardware shop belonging to Robert Obote demanding money.

However, when the hardware attendant Morris Obongo ran off to the next room, the suspect opened fire on his way out thus injuring three people. He also made away with Shillings 65,000,  which was on the counter.

The gunshot victims have been identified as 19 years old Kizito Isaac Okola, a resident of Olangit “A” village in Ogwete Sub-County in Otuke District, 25 years old Innocent Obwol, a boda-bada rider within Loro Town Council, and RA 278021 PTE Emmanuel Okello, a UPDF soldier who was simply passing by. All were rushed to St. John XXIII Hospital Aber for treatment.

Patrick Jimmy Okema, the North Kyoga Regional Police Spokesperson confirmed the incident, saying it was a planned robbery and that efforts to identify and apprehend the assailant are ongoing.

“This is such an unfortunate incident, however, it looks purely a planned robbery, though we leave it for the investigators to come out with a clear report.” Four cartridges and one live ammunition were recovered from the scene of the crime.

Considering the recent murders and ADF rebel activities in Western Uganda, George Abudul, the Apac Resident District Commissioner warned locals to be vigilant around this time when there are insecurities in almost every part of the country.
