Mengo, Kampala: Buganda Kingdom has marked a major milestone in its community development efforts, announcing that UGX 1.95 billion was collected through the “Luwalo Lwaffe” initiative between January and December 2025.

At Bulange Mengo, Second Deputy Katikkiro and Kingdom Treasurer, Robert Waggwa Nsibirwa, presented the annual report and outlined how the funds will be invested in transformative projects. These include:  reconstruction of the Kasubi Royal Tombs, establishment of nursery schools across all counties , upgrading medical equipment at Muteesa II Hospital , expansion of the Mwanyi Terimba coffee programme to empower farmers

Nsibirwa highlighted that contributions rose by 16 percent compared to 2024, reflecting growing public confidence in the Kingdom’s development agenda. “This increase shows the commitment of our people to building a stronger Buganda, where culture, education, health, and agriculture thrive together,” he said.

“Luwalo Lwaffe,” rooted in Buganda’s tradition of communal contribution, has become a cornerstone of self-reliance. By pooling resources from subjects of the Kabaka, the Kingdom continues to finance projects that safeguard heritage while improving livelihoods.

Community members have welcomed the progress, with many pointing to the Mwanyi Terimba coffee programme as a lifeline for rural households. Farmers say the initiative not only boosts incomes but also strengthens Buganda’s role in Uganda’s agricultural economy.

The Kingdom leadership reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and accountability in managing the funds. The success of “Luwalo Lwaffe” underscores the enduring power of unity and collective responsibility in driving sustainable development.
