Bushenyi, Uganda – The Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) has stepped into the battle against HIV/AIDS, demonstrating strong community support during the Empumo Marathon held this morning at Kizinda Playgrounds.
The run, led by Hon. Mawanda Maranga Michael, Igara East MP and Director of Mobilisation for PLU, brought together participants from the Western Uganda chapter in preparation for World AIDS Day.
The annual commemoration is scheduled for tomorrow, December 1, 2025, at the same grounds, where His Excellency President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is expected to preside as Chief Guest.
The marathon served as a symbolic call for action, encouraging HIV testing, raising awareness among youth and adults, and strengthening support for people living with the virus.
Hon. Mawanda highlighted the importance of collective responsibility in ending the epidemic, noting that community-driven initiatives remain critical in reducing new infections and addressing stigma.
“A healthier Bushenyi is possible when we stand together,” he emphasized, rallying residents to work toward a generation free of HIV/AIDS.
The Patriotic League of Uganda reaffirmed its commitment to national health campaigns and pledged continued support for efforts aimed at achieving an AIDS-free Uganda by 2030.
