“It is very painful for people who are supposed to teach their young children how to go about life, to be the ones taking advantage of them,” said CP Fred Enanga, police spokesperson.

“The abuse of the victims is a betrayal of trust and exploitation by a father, grandfather or any other guardian. Instead of protecting the girl child they exposed them to harm.”

Enanga thanked the victims and concerned citizens for their bravery in reporting the acts of sexual violence to police.

“We are deeply committed to thoroughly investigating these grave acts of sexual violence against children, and has tasked the department of Gender Based Violence at CID headquarters, to fast track the matter, and ensure the perpetrators are brought to book.”

He added: “We would like to remind to all local council leaders that most acts of sexual abuse and grooming are initiated by persons known to girl victims. We call upon them to always be vigilant and closely monitor girl victims in abusive settings and alert the police.”
