In line with President Yoweri Museveni’s call, the Eastern National Vice Chairman of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), Capt. George Michael Mukula, has urged all party members to actively engage in the crucial voter verification and registration activities ahead of the 2026 general elections.

This follows the rollout of the voter verification exercise and update of the national voter register by the Electoral Commission. The exercise began on January 7, 2025, and will run until January 10, 2025. During this period, registered voters’ names will be displayed at polling stations across Uganda, allowing voters to confirm their eligibility to participate in the elections.

“I call upon all NRM cadres to intensify mobilization and sensitization efforts to ensure widespread participation in this vital exercise. Updating the voters’ register is a key undertaking that requires the involvement of the public. It is an essential step in the roadmap for credible elections, and we encourage all voters to take part,” Mukula said during a press briefing on Wednesday morning.

He emphasized the importance of conducting the exercise peacefully and adhering to legal standards and Electoral Commission guidelines.

“The NRM government has always upheld the right of every Ugandan to vote in an atmosphere of peace and respect. As we approach the 2025–2026 election period, the government reiterates its commitment to ensuring a peaceful, lawful, and inclusive electoral process, as has been our tradition,” Mukula added.

He also highlighted the significance of voter registration in guaranteeing a fair electoral process.

“An accurate and clean voters’ register is fundamental to a credible and transparent election. I urge all eligible Ugandans to take part in this critical activity as it is a cornerstone of a fair electoral framework,” Mukula stressed.

On Tuesday, President Museveni, in his capacity as NRM Chairman, issued a letter to all NRM leaders, including members of the Central Executive Committee (CEC), National Executive Committee (NEC), district-level leaders, NRM Members of Parliament, sub-county leaders, and parish-level leaders.

The letter informed them that the Electoral Commission had announced the electoral roadmap for the 2026 General Elections, scheduled for early next year, and urged them to mobilize supporters to participate in the electoral processes.

The voter verification and registration exercise will continue with updates between January 20, 2025, and February 10, 2025.

During this period, registered voters’ names will be displayed at polling stations nationwide, ensuring an opportunity for all eligible citizens to confirm their registration status.
