CDF Kainerugaba Advocates For African Military Cooperation In Address To RDF Officers

Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has emphasized the need for enhanced military cooperation among African nations to strengthen regional stability and continental unity.

While delivering a lecture to senior officers at the Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) Command and Staff College in Musanze, Gen. Kainerugaba pointed out that regional conflicts and developmental challenges continue to hinder collaboration between African militaries. He stressed that overcoming these obstacles would not only enhance security but also promote economic growth by reducing the burden of excessive military expenditure.

Highlighting the significance of cross-border partnerships, he encouraged the officers to adopt a broader outlook beyond national interests. He advocated for deeper regional cooperation, a focus on human security, and stronger alliances with Africa’s traditional partners.

“African nations must work together, utilizing their diverse strengths to address shared challenges. Military cooperation is not just about deterring conflict it is also a catalyst for economic development,” he stated.

Gen. Kainerugaba praised the diversity among the student officers at the college, reiterating the importance of African-led solutions to the continent’s security concerns. He called for a shift away from competition among nations and urged military leaders to embrace a collaborative approach that fosters mutual growth and stability.

During his visit, the Ugandan CDF also expressed appreciation for the leadership of Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni and Rwandan President Paul Kagame, acknowledging their role in fostering strong ties between the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) and the RDF.

As part of his visit, Gen. Kainerugaba toured the college facilities and received briefings on its operations. He was accompanied by Rwanda’s CDF, General Mubarakh Muganga, who joined him in various activities during the engagement.
